Mares of Elmridge StudA quality breeding program is dependent upon the strength of the mare line, and from there stallions are selected carefully for each mare to complement and enhance their qualities with the aim of striving for improvement in every generation. We were very fortunate to have Malmsbury Samira (Amir El Shaklan (GB) – Sarika) as our foundation mare.
Beloved for her sweet disposition and herself an Australian Champion, Samira’s legendary sire Amir El Shaklan is an El Shaklan son and famous for not only his show ring success but significantly as a prolific producer of Australian and international Champion progeny. Samira’s dam was Sarika, a stunning show mare, winner of multiple AA Supreme awards and dam of Australian Champions. Sarika was owned by Lynden’s daughter and Verity’s sister, Vanessa Crosland, since 1992, the same time we were lucky enough to have Samira come into our lives. All the foals bred by our closely interlinked family studs, Lynden and Verity’s Elmridge Stud in NSW and Vanessa’s Syrah Arabians in Victoria, proudly carry Sarika’s bloodlines and inimitable stamp of excellence.
Malmsbury Samira produced one filly for Elmridge Stud, twice Reserve Australian Champion and multiple top ten, Safiyah, by SK Shakla Khan (US). Safiyah is a stunningly beautiful mare who has in turn produced three outstanding mares for us.
Shala, Safiyah’s first daughter by Sarezin, has had huge show ring success, becoming East Coast Champion yearling at her very first show and following that with multiple top ten results at the Australian Arabian Championships.
Her only foal thus far is Azhara, by Vanessa’s stallion Azteq LBA (US). Azteq’s sire is the wonderful World Champion and US National Reserve Champion Stallion Gazal Al Shaqab and his dam is the very beautiful US National Champion Amelia B, by the US National Champion Magnum Psyche. Azhara is extremely typey and exhibits the great qualities that both her parental lines have provided to her genetic makeup.
We repeated the Sarezin and Safiyah breeding using embryo transfer and this was to be Safiyah’s last foal, the very beautiful Sia. As with Azhara and Mahli, time limitations and stud relocation in recent years have meant that Sia has not been shown but she is a stunningly beautiful mare and has the kind, gentle and tractable nature that Malmsbury Samira has passed on to all her descendants.
